Wine Country Vacation on the Black Sea

Anapa is one of the finest grape growing regions in the world.  It’s potential for producing quality red and white wines is unsurpassed in the countries of the former Soviet Union. 
Anapa is also a well-known Russian family resort with sand beaches and comfortable accommodations.  Take a weekend or weeklong vacation to Anapa and see this wine country first hand. 
There are numerous daily direct flights of about two hours to Anapa, from all of Moscow’s airports. Austrian Airlines also has direct flights from Vienna to nearby Krasnodar three times each week. By September, the hotels that line Anapa’s golden sand beaches have emptied and prices are low, and there are many full service health resorts around Anapa (called sanotoria) that have first class rooms. Late spring before the summer crowds arrive is also a good time to visit A favorite is the Ural, with pool, large sauna, three meals a day from Swedish buffet, and European class rooms at just 1,500 rubles per day during this season. In the city the Okean Hotel by the harbor is a good choice.
